My old ass hasn’t watched MTV in close to a decade but this Sunday I might just have to put down the knitting needles so I can get jiggity with the kiddies. This year’s VMAs should have plenty of shade-throwing, side-eyin and ohnotheydidnt moments.

Last week, the Internet praised Lena Dunham for posting a picture of herself in her underwear on Instagram. One writer at Bustle called it “badass and fearless,” while a writer at Mic described it as “Feminist empowerment.” This week, Caitlyn Jenner (formally known as Bruce) unveiled her new female self wearing a corset and matching high-waisted panties on the cover of Vanity Fair, and again the Internet rejoiced.

Hollywood and the gender-based wage gap
When most people think of Hollywood, they think of pampered, overpaid stars. So it’s strange then, that Hollywood has suddenly been at the forefront of the gender-based wage gap debate. Most recently at this year’s Academy Awards, Patricia Arquette made an impassioned plea for wage equality during her acceptance speech for best supporting actress.
Angelina Jolie’s quest to be taken seriously
Despite the Oscar shade, a Golden Globe snub, and the “minimally talented spoiled brat” insult, Angelina Jolie’s war drama “Unbroken” (which she directed) continues to garner critical praise. Heck, even Jennifer Aniston, her former tabloid nemesis, called the film “beautiful and wonderful” and said that Jolie did a “gorgeous job.”
